Global Business 101

It’s a small, but extremely connected world. It’s true in terms of the information you can access from all over the world as well as your connectivity with key decision makers and business leaders in every corner of our planet. This is more apparent than in the global business, a term that includes any business or organization that operates outside of its home country.

As the world’s trade and commerce become more complex, businesses both small and large must make sure they are prepared to meet these new problems. This includes understanding the nuances and the politics of international business, and knowing how to collaborate with partners and colleagues in other countries than their own.

The undergraduate Journal of Global Business and Trade, or JGBT contains reports, articles and commentary that are relevant to global business. It’s also an official publication of the Consortium for Undergraduate International Business Education (CUIBE).

It is important to understand what cultural differences can impact the success of your business abroad and whether you’re a owner who is considering entering international markets, or want to ensure that your team is ready. This means understanding the customs of holidays, beliefs, and social norms of the various cultures that you will encounter in your international business ventures. It’s an excellent way to boost your “export IQ.” It’s also helpful to know how to interact with business partners from other countries. For example the different cultures have different expectations about personal space and greetings.
